New car, new personal loan?
April 17th, 2008 @ 12:35 pm

Ian and I bought a new(er) car when we got our tax return, so we decided to take my old car to a nearby salvage and sell it for the steel. Well, the car has a lot of problems (broken struts, speedometer stayed on 0 half the time, cracked windshield, etc. Basically just a junk car), but Ian and his friend Danny were going to try to drive it the 38 miles to the salvage yard. However, it only made it about two thirds of that distance before it broke down. Something about the belt and yada yada yada - who really cares?

Well, Ian was just going to have the salvage yard tow it from where it was sitting to their place of business. Which they did, Monday morning. Of course, Ian didn’t have the title with him and he was at work, so he wanted me to come down and drop it off to him. However, we only have one car, so that entailed me finding a ride. Which ended up being next to impossible for that day and even the following day.

Yesterday we finally made it down. We ended up getting $250.00 from the car. :) Not bad at all considering that thats after they took out the towing fee (Ever have something towed? It’s disgusting how much they charge. Once my car was towed ACROSS THE STREET and it cost us $80). Ian and I went to cash the check and split it 50/50. The only thing now is that we need another car. Trying to make do with one between the two of us is difficult. With our credit what it is, I’d probably have to apply for some bad credit personal loans. But first we have to work at getting Ian’s last personal loan paid off. He got one for $5,000 before our wedding and it still needs $2,000 paid. But still, knocking off $3,000 in two years isn’t that bad since he wasn’t paying that much a month.

Anyway. I was going to play outside with Mariah today, but the weather decided to turn cold and rainy. Isn’t that how it always happens? Last night Ian went outside with her while I was making dinner. They took out her new sidewalk chalk and drew all over the road in front of our house (our driveway is just gravel, and our ’sidewalk’ is just big tiles that are unsuitable for drawing on). Poor dear is going to be upset when she realizes her pictures will be washed away with all this rain.

Speaking of Mariah, her kitty Bounce has a paw thats all swollen. I noticed yesterday he was kind of walking funny, but today he won’t walk on it at all. It’s pretty big compared to his other back paw, but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to take him in since they need you to pay right away and Ian doesn’t get his check until tomorrow morning. For the time being, I’m just trying to keep him still and laying down so he doesn’t walk on it too much. He seems pretty content with that. The only time he cries is if Mariah walks too close to him. I think he’s afraid of being stepped on. But she knows not to touch his paw or try to pick him up while he has his “owwie”. Mostly she just walks by, pats his head and says “It’s okay, buddy. It’s okay.” Too cute.

Chris has a Mustang sitting in the driveway that isn’t even being used (we turned the tags in and all), and I swear I wish he’d just take it to a salvage yard. It’d be nice to pad the savings account *and* have extra room in the driveway.

$250 isn’t too shabby at all. Mariah sounds like she had fun.
