So, I had an interesting weekend. Saturday Hubby and I went up to his parent’s for the day. We arrived home around 7:30 pm and both went on to do our separate things (him playing PS, me playing computer). Around 8:30 I started feeling contractions, each one coming about 7 minutes apart. My midwife has always said to wait an hour and see how many there are before I call in. After timing them for an hour, they were still coming about 6-7 minutes apart so I called Labor/Delivery at my hospital and spoke to a nurse. She told me the usual: drink a couple glasses of water, lay on my side, see if they stop.
Okay, tried it. Didn’t work. Called the nurse back and she told me to come in ASAP to be monitored.
There’s the problem. Our car barely had enough gas in it, so I had to call my grandma. She had our daughter for the night and Mariah had just fallen asleep, so rather than make them get out of bed, we just drove our car to her house and switched cars for the night.
Now, my hospital is a good 45 minutes away, so we after arriving and registering, it was about 11:00 pm before I was hooked up to the monitors. Long story short, I was on the monitors until 2:30 am. My midwife came in and gave me a pelvic exam to see if I was dilating and also to check for pooling of fluid. She was worried about the baby coming early because Mariah was two weeks early when she was born. It turns out my cervix has started to shorten already so there’s a good chance Gabe will be early as well. After prescribing no sex for two weeks to try to keep baby in there for as long as possible, she told me that I have a bacterial infection. One that “confuses” the uterus and makes it contract (or something like this, it was 2freaking30 okay?).
Now I have to take a medication for the next ten days. I asked the nurse if my contractions would stop any time soon but apparently they can continue until the infection is completely gone. And after promising that my prescription would be called in to Walmart Pharmacy Sunday morning, I arrive there to find out that no such thing was done. The poor guy ended up calling six different places for me before my midwife verified the prescription.
Oh, the joy.
Hopefully I’ll find out more on Thursday when I see my midwife.
